Speakers

Your skin does not define who you are, is Natalie’s mantra. After developing vitiligo at the age of three, she struggled during adolescence. Reluctant to expose her skin, she gave up the chance to become a professional athlete. Some success with narrowband-UVB therapy restored her confidence and she now advocates for others with the condition.

How can physicians better support individuals with unmet medical needs? Professor Minder, a leading porphyria expert, has dedicated her career to advancing photobiology and finding medical solutions for patients whose health burden has been overlooked by the medical profession.

Briya understands the transformative power of community for individuals with vitiligo. After feeling isolated during her own diagnosis, she launched Colorful Connections, her business partner Vastia Sylvester, a game-changing network of events for individuals with vitiligo. She raises awareness by working with brands, including Nike, Revlon and Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty.

Research is key to understanding vitiligo and advancing therapies, but enrolling participants in clinical trials can be challenging. Briya and Vastia will be sharing insight on how to build relationships with the vitiligo community to advance crucial research.

Desiree’s own struggles with a type of porphyria led to the founding of the American Porphyria Foundation in 1982, a patient-run, expert-advised organization that now has thousands of members. The organisation was among those who testified before Congress in support of the 1983 Orphan Drug Act. How do you establish a patient advocacy group, and how are they improving the lives of individuals with rare porphyrias?

Living with vitiligo means showing your vulnerability to the world daily. Reuben Sam, a model and vitiligo advocate, has chosen to do this for a living. He encourages others to feel confident in their own skin and has begun to investigate the psychology of vitiligo, in order to better understand his condition. We are proud that Reuben is one of the faces of CLINUVEL.
