Melanocortins in the nervous system
The neuroprotective, anti-oxidative, anti-oncotic and anti-inflammatory characteristics of melanocortins, have been a focus for researchers. As melanocortin receptors (MCRs) are expressed in the cerebral endothelium, the brain-blood barrier, there is strong justification for further research into their potential role in strokes and central nervous system disorders.
